I'm playing around with Google Maps and I've noticed their directions are the most unusual way to get to places I normally go. It seems like they have me going all over town to make a two mile trip.

Am I maybe missing an update or is this just the wonderful product from Google? BB Maps is the same way, as well.

I'm patiently awaiting Mapquest for Storm as they seem to be the only mapping program that can get me their without a circus effort.

Your way is usually a learned way not a standard. They go by ideas like, major streets and more common stuff. Lots of gps proggies will have a choice between fastest or shortest. The mapping programs don't. Therefore they mostly go with major routes and leave out shortcuts.

I've always wished they had a third option...simplest.

I could accept that but for several of the locations, Google Maps also had me going through neighborhoods and streets which aren't exactly major streets in town. When I pick the "Fastest route" I don't foresee myself going through 25 MPH neighborhood streets when I could be going down 45-55 mph avenues.

Fastest from a mapping perspective means time. Fastest from your perspective means speed. There is a huge difference.

So you're saying 25 mph through 2 miles of neighborhood streets is faster than 55 mph of avenues with a few stoplights and only going 1 mile?

No, I'm saying that just because the speed is fastest on one route doesn't mean it's the fastest (time) route. You just now brought up specific distances. I was referring to general "fastness" - speed vs time.
