I think the whole accelerometer hangup thing where it stays stuck in portrait/landscape regardless of what you do is a pretty common issue.

I've found that opening the dial pad [green phone button for the inept] and exiting out of it fixes it every time. It should suffice until most issues of this sort are resolved via updates.

It should work either way. I've only had landscape issues, though.
