I read somewhere that apple has a patent on the fling scrolling idea. they are suing palm or something because the pre uses it. will we ever get this or does this patent prevent that?

No. Never. But not because of that patent that has nothing to do with it.

My wife's LG Dare (what a POS that is) has fling scrolling on it. Seems like some other phones i owned had it before the Jesus phone came out. I can't remember which, though.

It works on the Storm with Poynt, seems like it should be able to work with other apps too.

I think that we will eventually because its a must have in order to get through contacts quickly. If apple has a patent on it RIM can still get it they just have to pay a certain amount of money

I can't even imagine scrolling through my contacts. It would take WAY too long even with inertial scrolling!! There is a reason why there is a search function at the top of the contacts list.

This question has been asked so many times, but we never had an answer as to why its not included on the storm
. I would love flick scrolling on my storm.

Hardware is capable of it. Some third party applications are able to do it, but not the OS itself.

I wish RIM would let us know why they are not implementing it and the palm PRE comes out so I can get it !!!!

There is no lawsuit and the patent in question there is in regards to when you reach the top of scrolling it bounces to a stop...the bouncing motion is what apple has a patent on and palm had it on the pre in their video for the phone when they announced it. It has nothing to do with flick scrolling

The apple patent is for multi-touch input (i.e. pinch zoom) and shouldn't cover the flick scrolling. As many others have stated, that technology has been implemented in many devices and applications before the iphone.

Personally, I don't care if the Storm gets it or not. I think it is, at best, mildly useful.

Haven't we discussed this option numerous times? How about go after apple for using copy and paste.

gmail app has flick scrolling too. for contacts, I always use the keyboard to type the first few letters. This is much easier with the full keyboard in portrait.
