I'm pretty sure the color banding issue is not going to go away and it is not a bug. In order to increase the speed, RIM had to make some sacrifices, which resulted in the banding. This has been present in every leak for quite some time and I do not expect it to go away without getting the speed back to the .75 days.

...for most of us, it is there for the taking.
The question that i have is, what percentage of Storm users are BES with an IT policy? How many are general consumers?
I also would like to know why VZW would take on the expense of testing EVERY build that RIM has? Why not jump to one that is better or more improved? And why would they test builds, then have one ready to go without releasing it? It seems as if there is something that they have coming and are choosing not to release a build yet. Say the Storm 2. It is obvious that there is a Storm 2 in the works. And things are pointing toward VZW getting it, maybe that is what they are waiting on. Well that is what I believe is going on, even though we are told that is not the case. At least with 5.0. (it will come on the next Storm)
GPS isnt broken.. It may have a problem in the install, you might want to reinstall...
I have my original Storm (this is the original one I bought the first day it was available, never had the hardware replaced) and put .148 on it... It actually sped UP my gps in a couple apps... I'm getting faster locks in at least 2 programs.
What program in is the gps acting broken in for you? It may be an issue with the software and 148... 148 has broekn a couple programs that have to be updated for cmpatibility..
I know the gps is working tho, I use it in Geocache Navigator, Garmin, Telenav, Poynt (this is one of the sped up ones. On .113 I was taking 60+sec to get a location in Poynt.. Now its about 10sec or less, even in my house).
Just used Poynt an Telenav this morning, about 5 minutes ago.
So its definetly working!
I agree with this.
I know that when I have a res pic as my home screen, the accelerometer is much slower going from landscape to portrait than it does back the other way.
The color banding is not really that big of a deal to me. It does not affect my theme or the viewing of photos. It only really is present in the list of menu items, and even then it is not that big a deal. It is not like every item I look at is banded, the icons are clear too.
i think people are still confusing how verizon and rim work together. if rim has put off 4.7 builds for getting 5.0 ready that still doesnt mean verizon wont release a 4.7 build. if all they have for testing is 4.7 then how can they use something else? rim has to send it to them in order to be tested. im sure rim would want all carriers to use the same os for future endeavors but its still up to verizon to give its customers whatever it wants too.
i should say all carriers not just verizon.
Color banding is a non issue i think. I dont see it with my theme either but from the pics i have seen its hardly anything to worry about and the "normal" customers out there wont notice or complain about it
For who? I've used it every day since installing .148 (Google Maps and Amaze GPS)
Ya, I hate it when people make claims like this, as if its a fact. I also use GPS with no problem. Now it may be that the poster has an issue, but he shouldnt claim that .148 breaks GPS when he does not know what he is talking about.
This appears to be a huge issue for a small number of people, but I dont get it. They graphics on my Storm are the best of any pda or phone Ive owned. This issue gets more posts than deserved in my opinion, while some real issues barely get discussed. And its because the people that are bothered by the so called "banding" post a lot, making it look like a bigger problem than it is.
Sure hope the testers that Verizon employs aren't brushing off perfectly good builds without knowing how basic things like how "turn on gps" works.
But then, knowing how they like to save money, they're probably hiring illegals anyway, which would explain why nothing passes (no habla gps, fail, siesta!).
Absolutely! I've given up waiting for official releases a LOOOOOONG time ago! The lifespan of a device for me is about 6-9 months anyway...I got my Storm in January, got a replacement in February. I think I'll need a new one, for one reason or another, by the fall. Even if I don't, I'll be on leaked version 6.0 when Verizon releases 4.7.0.148.
if it gets approved, it will get released. the testing ends thursday, should know by friday what the verdict is, and could have this OS released as official as soon as friday or next monday.
vzw won't bet on an OS that they haven't even gotten out of the lab/network certification testing. they dont hoard software, they'll get it out. even with 5.0 nipping at their heels, the testers could care less about 5.0. they're testing the OS and that is all they are looking at. now if there is a 5.0 build right behind it (which there isn't, but for theoretical discussion) they might hold on the release and test the 5.0 build, and make the decision.
i agree. BB Maps, Google, Maps, Trapster and Weatherbug all work fine for me. If anything, better than ever. Weatherbu was a dog before this update finding a location and now works almost instantaneously. Google maps was able to pinpoint my location in the underground loading docks of Moscone center showing it off to a friend with and IPhone that couldn't even get a phone signal there. I don't see the problem.
The point is to have a supported OS that's better than .75
My GPS works fine. I use google maps.
+1 Same with the people that whine about flick scrolling
If you think they won't pass it because of color banding than i want some of what you are smoking :D It is barely noticeable anyway. I have 2 storms one on .75 and one on .148 and I can barely see any difference. Unless of course I change the Grid Layout to 3X3 or less.
