I know this has been asked several times and sorry for asking again, but I have an email notificiation (envelope w/#1 in front of it) and have looked every where, but nothing! Any suggestions?

go into the messages icon on your phone click on todays date at the top of your messages and then click "mark prior open"

The same thing baffled me for a while last night. Turns out I had a missed call and the mail message wouldn't go away until I opened the missed call from the call log.

open it or u can delete the log.
