I use a bluetooth headset the majority of the time. When my phone drops a call the alert sound is a very loud three tone alert that repeats itself at least three times. It's like an ice pick into the brain. Is there any way to change this?

Not that I know of. I love it though. Beats talking to dead air if you lose a call. At least you know you lost it.

I would prefer to embarrass myself by talking to dead air, than to suffer from hearing damage.

If you love that sound you must not be using a bluetooth headset. When using the phone only you can pull it away from your ear when the piercing tone hits your brain. With the bluetooth you cannot. It's painful.
I've always hated that about Blackberries.
I'd rather look stupid talking to dead air than have my ear drums bleeding.
Funny I thought I was alone with this problem? I bet RIM would fix this problem if a bunch of lawyers called!
