As stated, my screen keeps dimming and un-dimming while i use my phone.. is this a software problem or a handset problem. And help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The change should work. I had the DIM set to off and the phone NEVER dimmened. Then I switched it to auto and backlight on after 30 seconds and it works as normal.

Mine does the same thing. But I think it's a bug. The screen is at full brightness whenever in landscape form.

The dimming usually occurs as I reorient to portrait and the Storm realizes I had set the brightness to the lowest possible setting.

It seems like my auto dim doesn't work in landscape. Is it supposed to be like that? Not that I really care either way...just curious.

Could it possibly be that it is showing your missed calls. I had the icon showing and when I opened up my missed calls it was gone. just a thought...

try going into the Clock app then look at the menu and be sure "Bedside Mode" is disabled, this will also dim the screen during use

If your icon shows a number with a audio tape looking icon, you have voice mail and have to delete it through your voice mail. orAlso try other locations like missed calls/sms/messages or missed calls. Press grn send upper center phone icon (call log) and all missed calls should show up you may have to view or delete them. Hope this helps

Bingo! I noticed this too. That should fix it.

My first storm and the replacement I just got both have the same problem. The auto dim always works no matter what setting I have it on, I've tried a battery pull and everything else and it doesn't solve it. I'm going to pay more attention to see if it's only in landscape mode now, and also try the clock option to see if that is it.

The light sensor for auto-dim seems to be in the LED. I've noticed dimming going haywire when covering and uncovering it.

This was happening to me also. I'm new to BlackBerry and realized that though I was turning auto-dim off, I was forgetting to save and was instead closing to the home screen. lol. Whoops.
