Do you Really Void the Warranty of the phone if you install a leaked OS.

I understand why Verizon will not help you troubleshoot a problem if you are using a leaked version but i don't think it means you void your phone warranty. I keep seeing posts with people saying it voids the warranty... Can someone clearify???

No. There is no way that they would for one even care and two if something were to be wrong with your phone and you were concerned about this just downgrade to the newest Official version available before you take it in.

yes you will void your warranty bc it is not a verizon approved os. However, as long as they dont know, you are okay. I wouldnt take it into the store or return it with anything other than official OS releases

If they find out...yes...if not..I don't think so..I've been wrong before, and could be again. But if you restore to a offical OS version before they see it, it shouldn't be a problem.

No you do not void the warranty. However, it is possible to tell what software has been previously installed.

But even if for some stupid reason the phone busted and i couldn't get the official OS on it and take it in to get repiared and they fix it. could they say it's not covered under warranty if they repair it and then notice the leaked version.

again i understand they can tell me to install the official OS and not help me with my problem but i don't see how it would void RIM (the phone) Warranty.

I'm getting a replacement Storm on Tuesday, and returning this Storm which has .85 on it. I'm not too concerned about the O.S. unless someone really thinks I should. I know I had to return a Curve that had bootleg 4.5 O.S. when it was still supposed to be running 4.3 and never heard anything about it. Other than doing a complete reset on the phone, I don't anticipate I need to back the o.s. down to .75.

Just wipe the OS and send it back with no OS installed at all. Problem solved!
Thats what they will do with your 9530 as soon as they get it, so in actuality your helping them.

If you need to send it back just wipe the device completely (javaloader) and if they say anything say you did it to destroy your personal info on the device. What can they do?

I updated my storm to .83, visual voice mail didn't work. Verizon telephone support tried to fix it. The rep escalated my call to a specialist who wasn't able to fix it. Then tried to help me downgrade my phone back to .75. I was unable to, so the tech rep suggest that I return to the store and have them do it. No problems, they downgraded my phone and did it for free.

I guess I don't know if it voids your warranty or not, but think about this. Can you imagine if VZW had to take every phone they get back (not just Storms) put a battery in them, boot them up and check to see what OS is running. Then compare that to a list of approved OS's for that phone and either send it along or call you to tell you that your warranty has been voided.....that would take FOREVER!!!

When you send your phone back using the pre-paid FedEx slip that thing goes right to a warehouse where they wipe it clean and begin testing it for refurb quality.....they aren't checking anything.

I have returned many a blackberry with leaked os installed and have yet to receive a bill. This could be because most of the time when we send something back it is due to hardware issues, screen click, trackball messed up, dust under screen. Some of these things an os wouldn't have anything to do with.
