I had the same thing happen last Thursday. Still won't find it.
like when i plug it in, it seems the phone and i can open up the memory card folder , but desktop manager wont find it. I cant even use the tethering b/c of this
Is your device manager opening up with the desktop manager?

On vista i get the box that says "9530" always do ths for this device: / Device options: sync digital media...... 2. open device to veiw files..... import pictures, important pictures and video, or ST AUTO PLAY DEFAULT IN CONTROL PANEL

It could be an issue with your USB cable. I would try a new cable.
Also could be an issue with the USB port on your computer. Have you tried multiple ports?
Or an issue with the MicroUSB port on your Storm. Do you have another BlackBerry? Does DM recognize another device?

I had the same problem this morning. I tried all these things;tried all my ports, tried three different cords and tried a second BB. Nothing. After reading through this forum to no avail I tried the act of a desperate man - I pulled the battery. I worked!! I recognized the Storm and I am back up and running. :) Hope this works for you.
Try a battery pull. If that does not work, reinstall DM.
I have had the same issue but what I do to correct this is to reboot the pc/laptop. for some reason its like the driver that loads when you plug in the phone is hung. Not saying that is the fix for you tho. just thought id put that out there...
