I just tried to do an OTA update, and it said 4.8.0.11 was available, so I went to download it and it gave me an error message telling me that my OS was up to date and there were no updates available...

Was this an error on their part??

sounds like an error in something, either network, device, or carrier related.

yes it's most likely an error. 4.8 release is VERY unlikely

AFAIK there has been no development on 4.8. It should go from 4.7 to 5.0

No 4.7 is not phone specific as far as I know. likely, .86 (last digits) will change indicating a different build for the OS.

According folks here we are looking at .86 or .89 as the next build not 4.8

i understand what you are saying about the next build would be .86 or .89 but why would it change to 4.8 would that mean a massive update

4.7 is specific to the Storm due to all of the touchscreen code in there. If there's work being done on a touch based version of the Bold, it might well use 4.7 as well, but as it's yet just a rumor AFAIK, it's safe to say that 4.7 is Storm specific for now.

I also wouldn't be surprised if there's work being done on a 4.8 version of the OS. It seems perfectly plausible that they are developing it in parallel with refinements to 4.7. It might well be far from ready for any kind of real use, but I wouldn't be surprised if it exists somewhere.
