Sprint will not activate it. They only activate there own phones. I wish they did cause I would then not have to pay 2 damn bills.

dang. thanks man
The real reason is that Sprint doesn't use SIM cards. You can flash a dumb Verizon phone to use on Sprint.
????? what are you talking about.
Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA carriers and use the same technology and phones but by choice they will not activate their competitors phones. There is no such thing as a dumb Verizon phone in the context that you used it. The only Verizon phones using SIM cards are the world phones designed to be used on both CDMA and GSM networks but the SIM card is not used for Verizon service in North America and if fact you can take it out of the phone and not effect your service with Verizon.
Like I said, the real reason is that Sprint does not use SIM cards. The dumb phone I'm referring to is your standard phone, not sure about the other Crackberrys...
You CAN flash a Verizon Wireless standard phone to work on Sprint and MetroPCS
Let me google that for you
Check it out.
I'm not sure if normal BBs would work, but I have done it for other Verizon phones (VX-8600 for example)
I'm not a Sprint guy so I don't keep up with their policies but in the past they would not activate a phone that did not have its ESN or MEID in their data base, I know Verizon won't. Sure you can flash the firmware but you would have to clone a good ESN to get it activated. The OP asked about unlocking the Storm to use on Sprint, the Storm is not locked on the CDMA side as a matter of fact I don't think any CDMA phones are locked to a carrier.
BTW SIM cards got nothing to do with this, Sprint like Verizon does use SIM cards in their world phones for example the 8830 WE.
I'm done with this.
verizon CDMA phones are unlocked. that is why you could buy one and use it on altel. it is the non-vzw carrier's choice if they want to allow you to use the phone. sprint usually doesn't like to let people use non-sprint phones.
every carrier has a list of ESN numbers available to be used on their system. if the ESN isn't in their table then it won't work without override at the switch level.
good luck either way.
Sprint will not activate a phone whose ESN is not in their database, simple as that. If they would, then the 9530 as a CDMA/GSM phone would run on their CDMA network.
I got sprint to activate my storm for me, just had to make some threats is all.
I had a Curve 8330 with them, and wanted a storm instead, but it was a VZW exclusive.
So I bought one straight up from a local VZW store and called up sprint and asked them to activate it for me. First the answer was NO etc, so I threatened to cancel contract, along with my wifes, and parents then move over to VZW.
Thats 4 customers that sprint would have lost, doesnt seem like much but it dramatically hurts the reps stats, since they are supposed to try and "persuade" you to stay onboard with offers etc. So I started giving out all the basic personal information to cancel the plans, and asked the rep one more time if he will activate it, and of course he gave in and now I am happy as can be with my storm.
Just threaten a bit, remember they work for you not you for them. May seem unethical, but a lot of things in this world are and no one turns a blind eye to it.
At VZW occasionally they do account audits and stuff like this is what they're looking for. I'm assuming sprint does the same thing. Most likely if an auditor comes across it they'll suspend service and tell you to provide a new valid esn to reactivate. That is if they even care or are a company for much longer.
Let us know how it works long term!

Will do patches, but from a legal stand point, they cannot suspend my service unless I fail to pay my bill, worst case scenerio, that indian guy gets fired. Contracts are made for a reason, and they would be breaching it by suspending service without a court order.
So I think I'm fine, but incase they want to play rough, I will let my fellow CrackBerry users know ^^
First post. I found this by using the search function.
So verizon can be activated on Sprint if Sprint will allow it? I love the Storm and I'm ready to convert from being a Treo to a Crackberry addict.
I work in politics and have the contacts to go over the head of typical customer service types. I had to do that to get Sprint to do anything about the problems with my Mogul.
I have an Alltel wireless card. If Verizon's hardware comes unlocked I wonder if I can activate the new gobi module on my existing acct?
My question is the phone listed as a storm in there index or did you tell them it was something else. I have a storm and am trying to get them to activate it for me somehow. Also, was it one of those things where you had to wait a couple weeks for it to get onto there approved list of devices?
I have a telus 8330 curve and it was reported lost/stolen. bought it off ebay and the esn is bad. called telus and telus wont activate it on my plan?
anyone has experience with this? any possibility of activation?
