it does. they tell you in vzw literature that you can access your voicemail from a landline to avoid the minute usage...

Yes it does .

I have signed up for YouMail and have Joe Krills Visual Voice Mail software on my phone.

I then added the YouMail Voice Mail phone number to my Friends and Family, so I have 2 ways to check my VMail:

1. Using Joe's Vymail software (this uses data).
2. Using YouMail's Voicemail access number (which is free because it's on my Friends and Family list).
