Ok I have a Blackberry Storm with Verizon Wireless and though I am not a new user to Blackberry I am a newbie when it comes to upgrading to a Beta OS. I still have version .75 on my phone but am tired of waiting for Verizon to officially release a new OS. I have been hearing about a new 4.7/5.0 Hybrid OS and have found the file but do not understand how to exactly get it on my phone. Can anyone please dummy it down for me so I can try out this new OS. Thanks!

I would recommend trying 141 or 132 first, then trying a hybrid.

Just follow the instructions given at the top of the beta/os forum

    download OS

    delete vendor file

    turn off internet

    load software using desktop manager

If you dont get it to work tonight, private message me tomorrow AM, Ill give you my number and walk you through the steps.

I started using the Loader.exe to install upgrades instead of using DM. It's much easier and seems faster as well, and does a complete backup and restore of all your data. You find the file in the same place as the vendor.xml file (c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader).

I found this thread easy to follow...

If you want to use Loader.exe (highly recommended) instead of DM, just double click it after step 7 (deleting vendor.xml). It will complete the update and your done.

Try what ever you want, but the straight OS are a little easier to install.

Be sure to do a manual backup of data and third party apps before attempting any OS upgrade or downgrade.

because those are a bit easier for a first time beta installer.

He can do whatever he wants, Im just trying to help. I personally am using a hybrid and love it.
Going from .75 to 132 or 141 will be a hue leap and Im sure he will enjoy...

ok tried .132 and loved it and tried to update to the hybrid and got platform .162. Is this correct? It didnt transfer my contacts however and I have even tried to restore phone using the backup file and it gets restored to .141 instead of .75

platform 162 is correct for some of the 141 hybrids. it depends on what hybrid you used

Not sure who's hybrid you installed (lyric's or crackman's) but the speed and stability (especially the stability) have been much better for me.

I installed lyric's. I went back to .132 because I was getting the hourglass a lot after only a few minutes of use and several reboots. .132 is running great though
