I know this has probably been brought up a million times but what do you have to do to back up your third party apps when you put on a new os. Thanks in advance...

Use the Backup/Restore option in DM.

If you do a proper upgrade install using DM, it'll backup the apps at the same time, but if you want to be safe, just follow the writeup in the FAQ forum.

So if it is an official os i really should not be worried?

Doesn't matter. Any update installed "properly" (not via wipe and OS reload) will backup and restore your 3rd party apps and data.
