I signed up with verizon in January in order to get the storm.
2 year contract. Basic plan. I was told it would be $99+.

However, I just received my bill online, and it's more than double that!
    so was January's bill.

Granted, I added my son as a line, but shouldn't that be only $10?

I'll call Verizon in the morning, but it's bugging me.
I did NOT go over any minutes. I'm an average data user... maybe less than the average person. I'm very confused.

oh, i should have mentioned. I paid over $200 last month. THAT would have been the bill with all the activation.
Something's wrong... unless last time I paid for hardware, and this month is for the 2 months.

Online billing makes it difficult to go through things line by line.

it's paperless, and i'm having trouble navigating what the extra charge would be for.
It goes through each call, peak/off peak hours, etc., but I can't find anything about hardware charges. grrr...
it's probably right in front of me and i'm missing it.

Under your profile, choose my bill, there are three tabs to view info, but the default view should show you all the info.

The "paperless" bill online just means you view a .pdf of your bill. It looks exactly the same as a detailed bill you would get in the mail. Go to "my bill>view and print bill" and it should open as a .pdf file.

Perfect example that a 13 year old does not need a cell phone.

not necessarily, unless you put a limit on his line. It basically deducts what the primary line uses first, then whatever is left is given to the 2nd line. The second line's usage is then deducted from the minutes that are left. for example:

    700 minute share

primary uses 500 peak, which is fine, 200 left for the second line
    secondary uses 300 minutes. 200-300 = -100.

Second line shows that it went over, and will always, even tho its a combined effort. Primary line will NEVER show an overage unless the primary line uses more than the total family share plan minutes on its own.

Set a limit for him, and if he uses more than that then blame him.

Yeah I'd suggest putting a limit on the minutes and text, and block web browsing. Also watch out for the game and app purchases.

i've seen it happen a bunch of times when bills come in. someeon on the secondary line always gets blamed for it because that one line is always the last line to get the minutes, but its really a combined effort.

one thing you may want to tell him (may be stored in his phone already)

calling #MIN (#646) from the phone sends a free text with current minute usage to his phone

calling #DATA (#7282) from the phone sends a similar text with text usage.

good for him to manage himself if he's responsible enough for it. Just tell him about how much he needs to be at.

Worse case, VZW does offer usage controls for 4.99 a month. You can set a soft limit on minutes (meaning it will warn you and him when he's getting close, but not actually shut it off, so he can still use it esp in an emergency) and a hard limit on text (will shut off when he hits the limit, again if you decide to let him text and dont block it)

You should consider getting a text package, it may reduce some of the minutes he uses.
