    Any idea when/if there is an app or possibly a patch to fix the audio driver so it can run multiple audio extensions at once?

    For instance, listening to music and receiving a text message, yet having the text alert play on top of the music so as not to interupt it.

    Any ideas?

    Nothing like this exists as far as I'm aware.

    It's up to RIM to implement openGL on the phone if I understand the situation correctly.

    Yep, Myriad is correct
    Not something a 3rd party app could fix. Its a 'bug' in the OS.
