I've had my Storm for exactly one week and I'm pretty happy with it. I've been using the Application Switcher quite a bit, and have noticed that the 4 standard items that are always in there are Phone, Message, Browser, and Home. However, tonight Application Center was added to that menu. I don't use the Application much because I'm not interested in any of the apps right now, but no matter how many times I open it and close it, it won't get out of that darn switcher! I've turned the phone on and off many times, and I've pulled the battery out many times. What's going on?

Side Note: Just did the paper under the battery trick, worked like a charm!

Go into the app center and turn off the option to auto check for updates.

I did too, and it was still there. Did a soft reset and it was gone

I turned off auto-refresh and it was still there. But after a battery pull, it's gone. Thanks!

Battery pull worked fine for me.

Btw, if you like the paper trick, try the loosen the screws a tiny bit trick! Much nicer and won't stress your phone.
