I have a * on it showing me there are new apps or what not, but i can't get rid of the *.I'm running .75

I have a similar problem - it looks like the application center keeps updating my AIM application even though I don't use it and I never say "reinstall". I don't know how to A: stop the updating or B: clear the red star when it does. Help?

If you don't use any of these applications, try deleting the service books for them. Then a nice battery pull.
