Hey, that was pretty cool isht around 1981!!!
The iPhone in the commercials (and in most retail stores) is running on WiFi which is not realistic since WiFi is not everywhere. That is intentionally deceptive.
Just because someone has to use VZW does not mean they have to use the BB Storm. There are other BB's in addition to the WinMo devices, a lot of people like the Omnia.
Here comes my gentle rant. If you don't want to lose several minutes, scroll on by. ;)
And exactly what lesson would that be?
I had a launch day Storm. Given until 1/15 to return because of the holiday grace/extension. Less than a week before 1/15 I started getting white screens with colored specks that techs at Corp store had a)never seen before and b)had no clue how to fix. Up to that point I had no problems that would indicate it needed to be returned. So if that holiday grace had not been in place, I would have been 21 days beyond the traditional return window. Tell me how, in circumstances where issues surface after 30 days, the owner only has themselves to blame? Problems surfacing beyond 30 days is not uncommon. I continued to use that launch day phone up until about ten days ago, because two replacements I got were faulty and had to go back. Another issue with my launch day that suddenly got very pronounced only a couple weeks ago was screen click (and I did the torx fix). It just nearly stopped responding altogether, I swear if I pressed any harder to get a response it was going to crack.
See comments above about beyond 30 days. Search CB for "media format unsupported" error. Google it. Lots of us experienced that issue. One does not always get new within the return window. My first replacement was a refurb that had a loose end key (think loose tooth) and screen that was dead in several spots. Please, get some background info before accusing someone of being a troll. It's easy enough to find.
And to no one in particular: Storm owners bashing on other Storm owners who are having legitimate issues used to be just tiring. But there's some down right hateful attitude out there. It's becoming rather disturbing. This forum is just an insignificant fraction of life. If this hateful intolerance prevails in areas where it really matters, on a day to day level of interacting with others (spouses, children, coworkers, parents, the stranger on the street who needs a hand)...it's a pretty sad state of affairs. If squashing another person's feelings like a bug feels good, over a phone no less, it's time for some soul searching. A little tolerance and open-minded attitude would go a long way. And hey, life just might feel richer because of it. :)
To the OP, if you've been with VZW for a long time, negotiate for a different phone. After 2 replacements and 90 days into it, that's where I landed (customer since '95, didn't raise my voice or threaten, so that might have helped ;) ). My Curve is nice and stable. Not as flashy as the Storm and I miss some features like the screen real estate, but Curve has its benefits, so it's all good. I'll ride it out till one of the sleek new BBs arrives on VZW.
The lesson being that 1st gen devices always have bugs and flaws and its one of the prices you pay being an earlier adopter!!
Maybe thats what started your problems. Each phone should stand on its own merit and when you start comparing it to something else, 9 out of 10 times you'll be left disappointed.
I believe you are misinformed or I may be confused by what you mean when you say 3g. I'm not sure if you mean generation or speed. The iPhone, 3-4 months after the fact was still the same iPhone. 4GB size was being discontinued and the 8GB size was $100 less.
So, if I am not mistaken, there was no 3rd gen at that time.
Peri, I read this in its entirty and I cant tell you how much of my own sentiments you have expressed. I cant believe how one person can say they either dont like the Storm or dont like it for it's problems and 27 people will climb out of the bushes to attack that person.
These same people act like they've NEVER heard of a device failing right after the return period. H377, just look at how many PS3's have failed within the same week the yearly warranty ran out. When people actually take the time to research a problem or issue, it is only then that they discover how widespread said issue or problem is.
I actually feel sorry for the members here who are brave enough to state how they feel. The Storm or any phone for that matter, is not the be-all-end-all device others seem to want to make it out to be.
And all the comparisons to the iPhone- WOW! I had an iPhone for 5 months until I became completely bored with it. I've said this before, out-the-box, the iPhone was so so. Jailbraking it was no different than all these beta OS that people MUST have. For each person that has mentioned a flaw their phone has, they've been told about some damn beta OS.
Riddle me this- do any of you ever stop to consider that there really are many people out here in the world that lack the technical savvy you have? Here you are telling people that they are wrong for expecting their phones to perform in a fashion that doesnt require a masters degree in physics to get it work properly. How dare they!!
i mean speed. 3G speed
I definitely can sympathize with all of you fellow storm owners. I own several cell phones (yes I am a cell freak) and I had always said that if I get a blackberry it has to be a touchscreen. I received my phone the very 1st day it came out. I have people who work places and when I went to get my phone it took them nearly 8 hours just to set it up because too many people were cramming the network (sign #1 not to get the damn phone)
After receiving it yes I knew it would be slow and disappointing but wow it was beyond horrible. I kept the phone for a couple of weeks and a friend allowed me to exchange for a brand new storm with the new updates. At first it worked ok but then started to act crazy again...freezing, turning itself off etc...(strike #2)
I then replaced it with another phone the current one iam on and I am ready to throw it out the window go pick it up run it over with my H3 pick up the pieces and throw them in a fire!(strike #3) As far as verizon goes I can blame them for the service. The service is pretty good.. a tad bit pricey but oh well. I have been researching the Bold and it seems to be relatively good. I am going to cancel my contract! YES VERIZON REPS IF YOU ARE READING IAM CANCELLING MY CONTRACT THE STORM SUCKS! and i am getting a Bold!
iPhone is the way to go. I should have switched to AT&T but instead kept VZW as my carrier. Hopefully VZW will carry the iPhone in the near future.
I was replying to the OP. The way things were stated and said sounds as if there was one small issue, so suddenly everything is going wrong. Some people accidentally scratch their phone and suddenly the whole phone sucks because of this one little scratch that had you not known was there, you would be loving your phone. This is what the OP comes off as, so I responded accordingly. (The OP was also making some absurd claims.) Sure things might not pop up in the first 30 day's and if your actually nice and respectful to the reps then you have a very good chance at getting a new one. It's not going to hurt your chances if you kindly ask either. If you do not get a new one within your 30 days then it was a simple mistake on VZW's end and you should call in and kindly explain the situation. As it is policy for you to get a new one if its within 30 days.
Yup, I ditched that POS after 2 weeks and went back to the Curve!
stop complaning
totally agree with this answer.
Most of the issues you and many others describe are software issues and will eventually be resolved. I understand people not wanting to wait and feeling frustrated at how VZW seemed to be stinging people along by their promise of lade Dec and early Jan updates, but the builds just weren't stable enough to be official. As much of a PITA as .75 is the features all work for the most part.
If an error just starts to happen after not having had it before for weeks then odds are it is caused by either a hardware fault OR the OS interaction with a third party app. Remove any recently added or updated apps and see if they issue continues. If not try reflashing the OS OR ask for a replacement device
Minor hardware issues (the non clicking screen, etc.) are covered under the MFR one year warranty and they will give you a replacement. When I mentioned the 30 day return (really more with the Storm because of the holidays as you pointed out) I was mentioning to evaluate the overall suitability of the device.
LOL yeah and the world is flat.
I think what happens with people who are unhappy with the Storm (I love mine and does exactly what it was developed to do), most did not do their homework first. They were impulsive based on the hype. It IS a Blackberry. It's not an entertainment phone - yes it has all the bells and whistles but it IS still a Blackberry. This phone is great for business purposes with all the functionality it has and apps to go with. People complain that their leaked OS version doesn't work right -- well what the heck??? Of course it may not work right that's why it is not officially released yet. Common sense here. I have not had any problems with this phone and I am running the released OS (.75) until the newer ones are officially released. If you don't like the phone return it instead of blaming the manufacturer for not meeting YOUR standards. Try another phone. Also, read the manual and disc that comes with the phone. It's amazing what you can learn by reading and figuring out for yourself instead of looking for immediate gratification from others to your problem. And no I do not work for RIM or Verizon, just using common sense here.
