Next question- will Verizon cripple the GPS on this phone like they have a habit of doing on all BBs?

No, Verizon hasn't done that for years now. The Bold 9650, Curve 3G, Storm 2 don't have the GPS "crippled".

My Storm2 GPS is crippled. I can't use it with anything other than BB Maps and Verizon apps.

The storm 2 GPS is not hindered. If its not working then its a problem with your phone only

I seem to remember some discussions on here about how to unlock the GPS on the Storm (2) and other Verizon phones because Verizon had locked it down to be used only with their apps- even one discussion of filing a lawsuit against Verizon. Will try to use the GPS with third party apps again and see if it really is unlocked as of the latest VZW OS.

Make sure the third party app you're trying to use has the permission to use location data.

There are several replacements already, Droid, Droid2, Droid Pro, iPhone etc. etc. etc. Even a couple of new Samsungs.

Exactly, that was an issue for Curve 8330, which Verizon unlocked anyway. Storm2 doesn't have this issue.

Why don't you take your own advice??? It'll be a huge bonus for CB when you post your off-base and off-topic gibberish elsewhere.

Again, it is not locked. We are on verizon. We have Storm2's. We use third party GPS apps all the time. Case closed.

Yep, tried out Google Maps and unlike in the past where I would only get a location within 4000 meters (based on cell tower info) I now get down within 3 meters. Good to know!

What of all the talk lately that the S2 replacement is dead? Is it time to start looking at a Droid phone?
