I have verizon wireless in NJ. On my screen I see 1xEV. Is this the same as 3G or is there something I have to do to get on the 3G network? Or is it even available in my area?

For the US version of the Blackberry Storm, 1XEV is the 3G equivalent. If you are abroad (on Vodafone, or a GSM network), you will see the 3G icon instead.

It all depends on the network but its definitely 3G.

    Yes. 1xEV is Verizon's 3G service.

If you do a search, you'll see that this has been asked and answered numerous times:

Verizon is "3G" everywhere they have service now that is not a roaming area, Is that a lower case x on your signal menu? You should have all capital letters in your signal area, if you don't you need to call tech support(18009220204 opt 3,4,1) and need to be taken out and put back in the switch.

I think what he meant is:

You should not see 1xev. You should see 1XEV.

The casing matters in terms of the speed you get.

I believe 1X is the slowest.

1xev is like EDGE on AT&T

    1XEV is "broadband-like" speeds.

Has anyone had issues with 1XEV being slow like EDGE speeds?
Mine's slower than my TMo edge and that's even when I've got 5 bars showing....
    Any ideas?

sorry to the OP for hijacking the thread.

What if you don't have that on screen? Just the service bars. But no 1XEV

Lower case 1x denotes voice service. Capital 1X means voice and data.

Has anyone experienced connectivity issues with the network? I found my phone off the network an hour after I turned on my phone today....I didn't change settings or anything. I had to go to the manage connections icon and had to turn it back on...real weird.

There were posts yesterday about connectivity issues all along the NE coastal states. Was it working last evening and earlier today?

Actually, all caps means you are connected to the BlackBerry servers and will have full email and blackberry browser. Lowercase means you are not connected to the blackberry servers
