I can't believe nobody has looked here before but if you go to RIM's blackberry website and go to support and then downloads and tell them you're Vodafone UK and look for any softward updates for the Storm, you get the following information:

    Software For BlackBerry Storm(TM) smartphone

    BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.7.0.86 (EFIGS_Dutch)

    Package Version: 4.7.0.86
    Consisting of:
    Applications: 4.7.0.65
    Software Platform: 4.0.0.76
    File name: 9500_omadrmEFIGS_Dutch_PBr4.7.0_rel86_PL4.0.0.76_A 4.7.0.65_Vodafone_UK.exe
    File size: 103.04MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.
It seems that all we've been hearing about versions .65 and .76 and .86 are all correct, they just happen to all be wrapped up in one package depending on if you're looking at Package Version or Applications version of the Software Platform. Have fun tomorrow with your not so updated buggy Verizon Storms!

FWIW - I spoke with a RIM rep today and played with several BB Storms that were running .65 and it wasn't so bad as others have reported. I was told that .92 should be released late tonight or sometime tomorrow.

He is correct. The Storm ships with Version .65. I have even posted part of an internal document earlier today.

No internam vzw word on an update either.

This sounds perfectly plausible and the coincidence is just too strong to overlook. Anything in the .7x and .8x range though is a different story.

For what it's worth, I just got back from the Verizon store, where the rep told me they haven't gotten their shipment of "a handful" that they'll be selling tomorrow yet b/c the phones are being flashed with the latest OS update, 150,000 phones per day, and that's the reason for the limited number of phones throughout the stores around the country....

And no, he didn't know which version of the OS it was being flashed with...

The Storm might have shipped to the store with .65 but the stores will be flashing Storms tomorrow when the latest software is released.

If a new s/w version comes out, just do an OTA update. I did one on a Storm today and it was pretty cool. I took about an hour total to download the update, backup the data, run the update, restore the data, and be done. Beats pulling out a Windoze machine for us Mac users.
