Because one version is for the 9530 and one is for the 9500, as you just said. The build numbers are the same, but they're for different devices.
No offense, but that does not make any sense. Any other thoughts?

Can anyone explain why Bell Mobility offers 4.7.0.122 for the 9530 and Hutchinson offers 4.7.0.122 for the 9500? (According to CX's post #1 on this thread) Everything I have seen on this forum and others has indicated that you cannot use 9530 software on the 9500 and 9500 software on the 9530. I find this confusing. 73
You are correct. You cannot use the OS for the 9530 on the 9500. With that being said, there is a 4.7.0.122 for each device, each being specific for each device. Tomorrow, we could see a leak for the 9500 for 4.7.0.129 (for instance), but that OS wouldn't work for the 9530. In the case of 4.7.0.122, it just so happens that each device has the same OS version offered by different carriers as an official OS. Make sense? If not, then I don't know what to tell you! lol

Having .122 on my phone now for almost 24 hours I'm not so sure that I'm happy with it. It seems glitchy to me. Some things work better than my old .75 version but then there are other things that don't work as well.

    Things I like:
New scrolling highlighter to correct spelling or puncuation when writing.

Full keyboard option when typing in portrait (though tough).

Camera seems to work way better than it used to (couldn't get worse than it was).

Things just seem to move quicker with less lag... most of the time.

    Things I don't like:
When you lock the screen and the phone goes dark, you can't just touch the screen to light the phone back up and see things like the time, batt. power, etc. it just stays black. You will actually have to hit a button on the phone to get a visual now.

Suretype layout is different in portrait, I'm not sure if it will just take me adjusting to it again or what but I personally didn't see what was really wrong with the old version.

Haven't notice anything improved over phone call quality (some say it's improved).

So to sum things up I'm not as happy as I'd like to be with this release. I was really expecting more out of this since it had been so long in the works. Personally I think this is a slight improvement over all, and really, if you're running version .75 and happy with it, I'm not so sure I would update at this time. In hindsight I would have let this one go by and stuck with what seemed to be working very well for me before, except for the camera, that always needed major improvement.

** Anyone get similar e-mails like the below ones I just got? This seems to be in reference to the update I just did yesterday.

it was from what looks like a blackberry email account (can't post email address yet on this site)

It has an attachment of ETP.DAT (73 B) to it.

    ANYONE???
I believe it means that you are either missing a service book, or have duplicate service books, or something to that effect. If I remember correctly, you will be getting one of those emails every 8 minutes or so until you call your carrier and tell them what is going on so that they can fix it. That is what happened to me one time at least.

Perhaps the platform build numbers are different. Does any have that info for the 9500. (9530 platform for 122 is 153). Never in the history of the Storm have the 9500 and the 9530 had the same OS versions. This is uncharacteristic of RIM to do this without a reason. 73

Not when it comes to the same device. They have had the same OS versions for both the 9530 and the 9500 sinced their conception!

No offense taken, but you're just not understanding what build numbers represent, they do not at all represent the model of the device. Whether or not it makes sense to you, what I said was correct, as confirmed by fantom1023.

And this is just completely wrong. Perhaps before telling someone they're wrong simply because you don't think it makes sense (especially when you're the one asking for help) you should do a little research first.

Followed all instructions, and I can't figure out what I missed. After connecting my blackberry to dm, nothing prompted, and I went to app loader, and update software only to find nothing but .75. Any ideas on what I may have done wrong? I tried to install .122.

For install instruction to load any carriers 95XX OS on your BB:

    1. Download desired OS to your PC
    2. Install/run OS to PC
    3. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (If your not on Orange UK)
    4. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.
    5. Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.

*** This first post will be updated with each new Official Release as they are released***
I'm sure Telus released .109 officially some weeks back, cheers!

I can see the latest .122 firmwire upgrade is for Hutchinson customers. As my carrier is Vodafone, I was wondering if I upgrade, will there be any changes in settings etc? Can anyone please advise? Another issue is, when I click on the above link for .122, the download webpage asks for my details, name/address etc. Is there any issue for providing such information to a different carrier's upgrade page? I am pretty new on BB thingi. Please help me out. Thanks

Well, I never said or even suggested that a build number equates to a model number. As I have been writing software professionally since the 1990's and hold several certifications, I am fairly confident that I know that a build number refers to a specific software version. You will also note I asked about platform number info which may be the differentiating issue.

With no disrespect to Fantom, the fact that someone else in a forum conforms something means very little to me unless it is a moderator.

Consensus is no arbiter of reality.

I'm telling you...stick with .113. I've heard many different reviews of .122, but .113 recieves consitently good feedback. I use .113, and it is really nice. The primary difference I've heard between the two (I've never tried .122) is that .122 may be faster. I checked out the thread about improving memory and speed of storm (basically consolidating folders in the menu that comes up by pressing the BB button), and that cleared up a bunch of free memory, making my phone much faster. Also, regular battery pulls help as well. For all those who are considering .113 and .122, go the safer route with .113.
