    Hello everyone. First post here.
First let me say how a appreciate the forum and how everyone here is so enthusiastic about their BB.

    Now, my case:

I have tried many phones over the last couple of years, but only got my first BB some a few months ago. Even though buying a BB was a major step for me, I didn't regret. I got the Bold 9700 and the phone was amazing. Unfortunately I lost it (yes, yes, I know...) and now I am getting a new phone.

Now, I am a big fan of the BBs. I especially like the minimalist OS. It is not flashy, it doesn't have all those transitions and funky icons, but I like the OS the way it is. Unnecessary to say the keyboard on the 9700 rocks as well. Since I had to get a new phone and I was hooping to stay with a BB, I made a little research and learned about the Storm 2. Went to a store and tried it, mainly for the unique input method that it has, and I simply loved it. The typing experience, for me, was very very good.

The problem is, with all the other brands having their top phones in the market, and taking into consideration how fast (usually every year) new and better phones become available, I am wondering if the Storm 2 is still a good choice, if it is still able to compete with the newer phones recently released.

We all know that what the BBs do they do very well. But in comparison to these newer phones, is "very well" still enough to put up a good fight?

If you guys would take the time to leave your input, I'd appreciate.

get a dumb phone for next 5 months offa craigs list or ebay then get a storm 3 . thats what i would do if i were u ...Lost ur BB? jeeeesh lol.. as long as u dont need data services right away . i think getting a new storm 2 now is a little late with the way technology is evolving nowadays u'd be happiest i think with storm 3 and should be out sometime in the fall.

I have Storm 2 for about month and a half. I was very excited when I got it, and I am sure that it is in top 5 smartphones. It's OS is flawless, among best, maybe just IPhone's is faster. I have HTC Touch PRO, it is so slow, even with WM 6.5. On the other, BB OS is very ergonomic, everything is where it should be. For me, Iphone OS is little bit confusing, but OK, it's just me...
RIM support is another story, I live in Croatia, Southeastern Europe, and we still don't have Appworld. Storm 2, with T-mobile, has come in our stores in April, 2010 ??? Six months after rest of the world... But Apple's AppStore is here, for about one year. I don't compare BB between themself, because only form is different, basic functionality is the same.
For me, lack of Apps is biggest problem. OS updates on T-mobile in Croatia is very rare, so often i tries leaked OSes.
SO, this is without any doubt, the BEST phone I ever have. There is of course, things that should be better (no double or triple click issues, faster browsing picture folders etc...), but this is case on every mobile phone....

BRGDS to all BB fans, and specially to CB

I am flattered, I truly am. This validates all of the hard work that I put in. As for the storm 2, I say get it, It's easily the worlds greatest phone!

I have the Storm 1 and am awaiting my S2. My husband upgraded his 8330 to the Droid Eris and I sure hope I don't like it better than the S2. Speed would be the only thing that changes my mind. I haven't used wifi either so I will give it a fair shake...keep fingers crossed I love the S2. Good luck.

I love the S2 also. Right now there isn't any other smartphone on the market that I would trade it for.

As for upcoming devices, I haven't heard anything much of the S3, so I think its still a ways out.
The only other BB that tweaks my interest is the 9800 slider. - but it is going to be a GSM phone. (AT&T). I need Verizon's coverage because I travel a lot.

So, if it were me I would get the S2. If something else comes out that your dying to have, then you could easily sell the S2 for a few hundred bucks. (ebay, etc.)

I love my Storm2, but I have to agree with zurch. Get a used phone and then get the Storm3. You should not have to wait past November if things play out like they have the last few years.

It's been the best phone I've ever owned. You should go play with one in the store. If you like it, get it. I'd play with the droid as well. My son has one and it's a great device too.

Guys, tnx for the input, all of you.

    Grey,grayz,vjelovic, cody:

I have played with it in a store here, tried the keyboard and really liked it. As for the OS, having owned a Bold 9700 for a while I know what to expect. I am just thinking...I sad I don't really care for the fancy graphics, but when it comes to apps, I am not sure. I have been talking to people that use other phones , droids, symbian etc, and they seem to enjoy the freedom and the convenience that having a lot of pertinent apps gives you. Now, even though I have used the Bold for a while, I wasn't really thrilled with the apps. I mean, they were good, but I guess the question is: when it comes to apps, how far behind are we?

    zurch, dbw:

I have though about that, but I need a good phone with a nice organizer, a good music player and a nice keyboard. Thought about getting a Nokia E72 for a while, but I just don't like the way their OS feels....also, the keyboard on the Nokia doesn't seem to be all that great. The 5 Mp camera is seducing though...

OP- I'm in a similar boat, corporate 8830 user who is in dire need of a new device, however the idea of getting a year old phone makes me sick.

I don't want to rain on the S2 parade, but try this, go to VZ store, grab a S2 and download Google maps, run through it for a few moments, turn the screen, get some directions.

Now go pickup the HTC Incredible and do the same... can you still bring yourself to buy the S2 after that? I just can't... my other option is th Bold 9650, great, more old hardware that was held back so Tour owners wouldn't kill VZ reps if it was released within a couple months of their seriously flawed device...

Enterprise IT policy is killing me (no Android OS allowed... yet) after spending over an hour at the VZ store all I left with is phone depression.

The Incredible might run Google Maps better quite possibly because Google owns Android Inc. Try running the same non-native app on both phones if you want to compare apps.

Have to disagree here. S2 is not flawless, but some versions are better than others.

To the OP, if you want to stay with BB i would suggest getting either the Bold 9650 or wait a little bit for the Bold Slider 9800 to come out. I have a love/hate feeling for my Storm 2, in the end i do think it is a good phone. But both the 9650 and the 9800 have better specs than the 9550 and will be able to run OS6 smoothly(hopefully)

I say, if being on AT&T is not a problem, wait for the Bold 9800. It looks to have the screen size of the Storm2 and updated OS 6.

Like others have said, play with them all at a store or wherever you can and go from there. I love my 9550 but I wouldn't buy it brand new at this point if I was coming from another berry. I'd buy a used one and wait to use my upgrade on the next phone I'm interested in. It all comes down to what works best for your needs. I played with a couple of Droids for a few hours, never tried Iphone for more than 5 minutes and they are both nice phones. I prefer my 9550

The core apps and a few free ones will let you do most anything you want. I have over 90 3rd party apps and games and really only use 8-10 of those on a regular basis. The BB with data plan and BIS/BES is the most convienient and mainly what I use it for. But with S2 having bluetooth, gps and WiFi that gives you many options. I really never buy apps (anymore) because no matter what they do, there is a free app (or two) that can do it as well, IMO.

Yes the S3 will be here soon, but I say get the S2 now, assemble the apps you need/want, upgrade to the OS6 when it comes available and check out the S3 in a couple of years. Why wait?

If this question was asked last year then I would say yes, but there are so many better phones coming out this year that I would wait until the end of this year AND THEN choose

I love my Storm 2... it has and still workes great for me, does everything I need it to. Sounds like you are like me and don't need all the hype and flash the other phones bring. I can go out today and upgrade to whatever is bigger and better and brighter but as soon as I would do that, there will be something even bigger, brighter, shinier that will come on the market that catches everyone's eye.
My Storm 2 does exactly what i need it to and yes i have upgraded the OS and brought in apps and have apps I've only used once and they sit. I've had apps that haven't worked all that well and have had some that work flawless. I have had some that as I upgraded they got worse but over time they got back to even better than they were before I started. But in the long run it has done everything I have needed or will for now. Until it cant do that anymore, then I will think about moving up. But why get the bigger and better when i wouldn't use half of it anyway.
I would just look at what you need and don't be a minimalist and get something that wont allow you to grow as you need things but do get what you need.
I have a friend who left the BB and went with the droid a few months back..at the time he was boasting how great it was and it was the best phone ever and I'm dumb for still being on the BB....then the incredible came out, now his phone sucks and wants the bigger shinier one.
And here i sit..still very happy.
The grass is always greener on the other side.......
