You can get the 623 java from bbhybrids and just load it over 517.......I just took a chance on this and so far it awesome.

    Pro:
Overall OS is faster/reboot is faster/ browser is faster/ smooth transitions/ wifi works well/ Touch screen button visible on video camera mode/ more memory (131) w/ 10 apps installed/

    Con:
Camera has no touch screen button/ Camera flash does not come on when set to "AUTO" but works when set to "ON"/ No icons on the bottom of the call log/ google maps search issue is still there/

I will update this post with battery info........

I loaded 623 files over 607 and used 612 camera keyboard and other storm2 specific files running great with no issues but battery life is killer. 612 and 607 had solid battery life.

Does this fix the word completion issues turning back on when typing in portrait mode with a full keyboard?

Also, I too would like to know which COD files you used to get your camera fully functional...?

    Thanks!

EDIT: I just noticed that when placing a call, the LED dimly pulsates red really quickly...
EDIT2: So far so good on the word completion issue, which seems to be working and not turning itself back on so far...

Yep, I can confirm this fixing the word complete typing issues! (FINALLY!)

We now need a camera fix and the led pulsating, which isn't a problem really, and we're good to go!

Oh and pictures load much faster than 607. Which was slow time to time...

Found the fix directly from lyricidal taken fom 9550 - 5.0.0.623 (Full Java) Hybrid Findings and Fixes

Net_rim_plazmic_mediaengine.cod from 612 to fix camera buttons not showing
    And
Net_rim_bb_browser_gears.cod from 612 to fix Gears Settings

Perfect so far except for the led blinking lightly while on a call is the only issue left...

NOW OFF TO MY WEDDING!! SEE YOU ALL IN A WEEK! :-)

The LED dimly and rapidly flashing during phone calls is NOT a bug. This comes up every time there is a new OS.

The flashing LED indicates the facial recognition is active and the screen should be locked. If your LED is not flashing during a phone call then there is something wrong with your S2.

Being that im on T-mobile do I have to do anything special?

I think I only have to delete the vendor file right?

.cod files go in the same folder as the rest? im guessing.....

    - Use Desktop Manager - Backup and Restore to backup your phone (I do this for safety in case app loader messes up. Additionally you can get BBASK and backup your apps to be extra safe, but that is a bit more advanced.)
    - Close Desktop Manager
    - Go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader (Program Files (x86) if you are running Windows 64-bit)
    - Delete vendor.xml if it exists
    - Run Loader.exe and run through the options (Make sure you do not have 607 installed on your pc)
    - Done

Some people will say wipe, but that never does anything for me.

I think I'm going back to .517/.553. It still runs the best and a few apps (MLB At Bat) are not compatible with .623. Furthermore I'm still seeing homescreen lag when changing screen orientations.

You might try Seanren's 8.5. I was on 553, but I like 8.5 just as well. Good luck. I was not motivate enough to try 623.
