I JUST GOT a "fatal error" while trying to update through DM...after it backed up everything and started rebooting the phone.. anyone getting this.. what is this? what should I do?

If this is your first OS update, there is no need to do a full wipe. As Crucial said, you should do a full wipe after 3-4 updates.

why should you wipe os after 3-4 os update ? my next question is what about programs that i purchased such my garmin gps back up the unit will save my purchase programs?

Clear your browser cache on your BB and try again.

Delete the Browser Cache, SMS/MMS, useless e-mails and memory cleaner. Then it should be able to backup that way.
