3rd Party Apps vs. Battery Life
Hi Guys,
Long time reader, first time poster. I have a question/rant based on my observations over the past three months of my Storm ownership.
I'm running .103 right now on my phone, and I've upgraded to every leaked OS since I've gotten the phone on launch day. I always wipe the phone prior to installation and I've never downgraded.
The one item that I noticed that really bugs me is 3rd party apps.
For one, I had the newest version of Slacker Radio installed since last week and since the install the battery life was seriously affected. And most days I didn't even launch it, it's not running in the background, its completely shut down, yet the battery takes a HUGE hit. After upgrading last night to .103 and having freshly wiped it, I don't have any battery issues today and I think I can attribute this to not having any 3rd party apps installed.
This also happened when I had WeatherBug installed, however, Viigo doesn't affect my battery at all when shut down and not in use. Is it that Viigo is just programmed better?
I love the Storm and I really think the whole point of it is to have tons of apps and productivity items to make life easier and fun. However, if having an application installed that ISN'T even running AT ALL, yet still impacts battery life, what's the point? Is this just me? If an app is shut down there should be in no way for it to affect battery life, espeically if it's not updating itself over the air, like Slacker.
Suggestions? Comments? I'm a little upset over this because I love thrid party applications, but if I can't trust them when they are not running what is the point? And is this something that is just a programming issue from the software developers that can be avoided?
Thanks guys,
Chris
