Is 22 3rd party apps too many for one storm?
NOPE! I have 22 apps on my storm and im running .90. was running .99 but hated the memory leak and text input lag. but with .90 and 22 apps i have 40 MB of free app memory and havent had to do a battery pull in 2 nights.
i have:
1.accelerometerDemo
2.aol instant messenger
3.AP mobile news
4.beyond411
5.bolt
6.captureIT
7.facebook
8.flickr
9.googlesync
10.google talke
11.logMaid
12.myspace
13.quicklaunch (the newest one)
14.quickPull
15.stormLock
16.trapster
17.VIIGO (my favorite app)
18.windows live messenger
19.Wall street journal reader
20.yahoo! messenger
21.youmail
22.weatherBug
wow, thats impressive. one app i absolutely love is JiveTalk from beejive.com. it's a multi-protocol IM application. i think i paid the one time $20 fee, that includes all future updates. it can be transferred to a different device if you get a new phone, etc. so you buy it once, and can take it with you on whatever phone you have, as long as it's one at a time. This way, i can use aim, msn, and yahoo all at once without dealing with separate apps.
to get bolt i just followed a link from the bolt website. i do recommend it because of its speed. and it doesnt support the click technology the storm brings to the table. it is like surfing the net on an Iphone as much as i hate to say that. you simply just touch the screen to select the desired link.
no. no pressing down on the screen. just simply tap what you want to select. this sometimes leads to choosing something that you dont want to select though. but the ability to show any website that you so choose in its entirity is a great thing to have in your pocket
Bolt is a great browser that is in Beta and was invite only. I was lucky enough to get it and I'm sure it will be available soon once they get rid of a few more bugs.
oh yeah and i also am using 5 email accounts on the storm as well. i dont think email accounts have much to do with app memory besides storing the messages
yea that almost pisses me off that you have all those apps and that high of app memory. i run like 6 apps and 4 launchers. and i wipe my phone and run crackmem with every new OS and have had every OS and after a batt pull im only getting 39.6 now
Man, I've only got 6 apps and 3 email accounts, I need to step up my game apparently, haha. And yes, I also recommend the Bolt browser. Like Danieljbrown32 said, the clicking is different and can be troublesome from time to time, but it's incredibly fast. And, now it switches from portrait to landscape instantly, which it did not do before.
im sorry. go back to .90. .99 for me was nothing but a race to see how fast the memory could leak. it was horrid. .90 is AMAZING with memory and stability after coming from .99. you will lose the green go button in the browser though. thats it
also the biggest thing that helped me was i completly removed all the default apps that come with the storm. for example: VZ Navigator, and that waste of space VCast w/ Rhapsody. also go into you DM and disable support and input support for all other languages besides engish
Care to explain your success with all the apps? Did you do resets after each install? Clean install of .90 (assumed with the downgrade)? How long have you been running .90 again? If over a week, have you had any issues with the backlight staying on? Are you on BES or not?
Things like this seem to make a difference, in my opinion so your official method that works would be greatly appreciated.
i have erased all unneeded apps that came on the phone. refer to my previous post for this info. but i have never perfomed a clean install. i always install all new OS over the last one that i installed the previous week. i just always make sure i always close the program i just used and never ever let a program run in the background. if you have viigo make sure to go to options within viigo and turn off the option to allow it to run in the background. and i have been back to .90 now for about 3 days. i used .90 for a week but its memory leak was monsterous.
I've had my phone for 5 days and already have 10 or so apps on it.......
I'm running:
Opera Mini
ESPN
weatherbug
facebook
yahoo messenger
blackberry messenger
captureit
google maps
slacker
quickpull
vib and ring
But like a previous poster stated, I deleted a bunch of default apps that i knew i would never need.
I'm running .99 and have noticed my memory tends to leak......was messing around earlier and checked my memory to see that it was 0, but my berry was still working pretty good (went ahead and done a battery pull though)
BTW what's everyone's opinion on bolt compared to opera mini?
I have 40+ 3rd party Apps installed and I haven't had a memory leaked. 30 MB available space and 1 battery pull every 2 weeks.
1 Opera Mini
2 Associate Press
3 Wall Street Journal
4 Youtube app
5 Google Maps
6 weatherbug
7 facebook
8 Canadian Living

10 Hockey News
11 McClean
12 Bolt
13 SitorSquat
14 Tiltris
15 The Street
16 iab
17 Worldmate Live
18 Flickr
19 Canadian Business
20 Screen lock
21 RIS media
22 Saja
23 Viigo

28 yahoo messenger
29 MSN Messenger

35 myspace
36 Capture it

Oh, haha,it's an app that let's you watch live streaming hockey games, listen to sports radio, scores, news, highlights and updates but it's only exclusive for Bell clients. I could send you a service book to try but I'm not sure if it would work on verizon.
