Would a UNLOCKED BlackBerry Storm 9500 or 9530 allow me to connect to AT&T 3G network
- AT&T 3G: Not in the US, no. The Storm's GSM 3G radio doesn't have the frequencies to use AT&T's North American 3G.
GPS: Don't quote me on this one, but the GPS for the Storm isn't locked down anyway - I'm on Verizon, my Storm isn't unlocked, and I don't pay for VZ Navigator, and I can utilize the GPS in BlackBerry Maps or Google Maps to my heart's content. Which leads me to believe you should be fine running the GPS on an unlocked phone.06-02-09 04:18 AMLike 0 -
GPS has never been locked on the Storm, and whoever told you Verizon disables it lied to you .
What?? Where did you come up with this?Last edited by Craterz; 06-02-09 at 06:09 AM.

The storm supports the following bands:
* UMTS/HSPA: 2100 MHz ---- (The storm would need to have the UTMS 850,1900MHz band to support ATT's 3G network, or 1700MHz to support T-Mobile's)
* North America: 850 MHz GSM/GPRS networks
* North America: 1900MHz GSM/GPRS networks
* Europe/Asia Pacific: 1800MHz GSM/GPRS networks
* Europe/Asia Pacific: 900MHz GSM/GPRS networks
* Dual-Band: 800/1900 MHz CDMA/Ev-DO networksLast edited by snork; 06-02-09 at 09:06 AM.

Even with the proper service books installed, the phone will only pick up EDGE.
I'm running a 9530 on AT&T and it's not so bad... Other than the fact that I can't use any apps that use APN....Last edited by vicx52o; 06-02-09 at 09:44 AM.
06-02-09 09:41 AMLike 0 - I thought i trick AT&T and i called support asking to see if i could get 3G working and after i they found out i was on an "unbranded" device they said they could do nothing. If the 9530 can get on AT&T's 3G, how would one know?06-02-09 10:35 AMLike 0
- vic, you enter the TCP settings? I did and i havent had any issues, i get a constant EDGE connection with .148 OS, .132 radio and the connection set to 2G instead of 2G & 3G.06-02-09 10:37 AMLike 0

*EDIT* - Apparently Tmo has both 1700 (see arcanexvi's post below) and 2100 depending on the area...so depends where you are I guess.Last edited by ADberry; 06-02-09 at 11:03 AM.
06-02-09 10:44 AMLike 0 - T-Mobile USA is the United States based subsidiary of T-Mobile International AG. T-Mobile USA is currently the fourth-largest wireless carrier in the U.S. market with approximately 32 million customers as of August 2007 and annual revenue of US$17 billion.[9]
The U.S. T-Mobile network predominately uses the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 1900 MHz frequency-band, making it the largest 1900 MHz network in the United States. Service is available in 98 of the 100 largest markets and 268 million potential customers (POPS).
(3G DATA for the T-Mobile G1)
T-Mobile uses a radio frequency band (1700 MHz) for 3G connections that is unique in the world. The carrier claims it allows faster data speeds but the reality is it means that only phones specifically designed for the T-Mobile network will work at full speed.
As for ATT... Not sure why you can't get 3G as the ATT network runs 3G on 1900 and 850 bands. Both of which are supported by the storm.
These are the bands supported by the 9530

Thank you Arcanexvi for such an informative post. That is the exact reason why i was under the assumption the 9530 should work with ATT's 3G network. I am positive the 9500 will only pick up EDGE but it would seem otherwise with the 9530...06-02-09 11:21 AMLike 0
