Is It worth returning for dust
- I've had my storm for a month now a just noticed a speck of dust under the screen. I did the flashlight trick and there is probably half a dozen specks visible. I've read that a lot of people are returing their storms for the dust and getting replacements that have the same issue. My question is; is it worth returning a great working phone for a single visible speck of annoying dust when there is a very good chance my next one will have the same problem? Will I have dificulty returning the storm after Jan 15th for dust? How will returns work after JAn 15th? Should I chance it and keep the phone and pray I don't get any more dust (even though I probably will)? If RIM should modify the manufacturing process, a return 6 months down the road may get me a better manufactured or appropriately refurbished phone. It's a tough decision. Just looking for some opinions that my help me make a decision. Thanks01-12-09 09:53 PMLike 0
- depends on how much it bugs you. i have 0 dust but sometimes get tricked by the grid cause the little dots of it will look like dust specs at certain angles01-12-09 10:01 PMLike 0
- I was actually thinking about the same issue. My storm seems to be working just fine except for some dust under the screen. Like you said, people getting replacements have had similar issues so I don't know if its worth it to roll the dice with an exchange. I can't imagine what it will look like in six months though.

- I returned my Storm due to dust and am now glad that I did. My phone was working fine I just couldn't stand the dust. My replacement is a completely different phone and I love it even more! This phone already has a couple specs of dust but I will not return it.
I am going to deal with it.
If you cannot deal with it, replace it now. If you can I would hold onto it. Verizon told me if it ia a manufacturers defect it will be replaced, even after the 30 days.
And dust does qualify as a manufacturers defect.
Hope that helps.

Pulled it out of the box, and there's a massive chuck of dust under the screen. Pulled the screen protector off just in case and nope, right under the screen. I rekon that they have a problem at the plant itself with a few phones, because for such a large speck (visible under any lighting) is pretty silly.01-12-09 11:48 PMLike 0
- I found a little spec under mine also. Thanks to this forum, I probably wouldve never looked on the screen for one lol. Now its driving me nuts sometimes but isnt that visable. Only if your REALLY looking for it lol. Not worth sending back for something like that honestly.01-12-09 11:58 PMLike 0
- It is your own personal preferences. I haven't looked hard enough at my screen to really notice but if it bothers you enough why not get it exchange
. I think it is something I can live with
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com01-13-09 12:51 AMLike 0 - I thought I had a dust while reading my daily news, but it was a period at the end of sentence and not a spec of dust.01-13-09 03:21 AMLike 0
- I'll wait till they fix it for sure on newer builds. I have a couple specks here and there and it's only been about 2 weeks with mine. I am super OCD about keeping it clean and away from harm, but don't see a reason to replace it when it functionally works perfect. I'll deal with the dust for now and once it gets really bad a few months from now will return it for a newer build one.01-13-09 07:33 AMLike 0

or ... the bean counters could just say forget the Storm and discontinue it. Even if RIM did do a hardware revision, I doubt if we would get a new replacement. Let me see, over 400,000 sold before the 1st ... that could be a lot of money.
Personally, I don't look for dust, I don't notice dust and I love my phone. The last thing I want to do is trade it in for an unkown. Perfection is awful hard to come by.01-13-09 07:42 AMLike 0 -
Take out the battery and shake your phone softly, the "screw" that seems to be loose is actually a part of the accelerometer I think, which is not being held in place anymore (by electromagnetism?) when the battery is out. (this has nothing to do with me thinking the phone might be iffy BTW )01-13-09 08:53 AMLike 0 -
- I think I'm gonna live with it. The chances are the replacement won't work as well as my current phone and it may accumulate dust anyway. Guess ill wait and see if RIM fixed the issues. Thanks for all the replies.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com01-13-09 12:52 PMLike 0 - dust in the screen is due to a bad seal between touchscreen and the display. If the seal is so bad that dust can get inside, so can probably moisture, oils from your face and other junk.
At least for me, this is the one defect in the phone that i would not tolerate. Unlike screen click it is not easy to fix, and will probably affect the phone in the long run.
get it replaced!!01-13-09 12:58 PMLike 0 - I have a little bit of dust under mine, and I use a card behind the battery cover to get the click to work right. Other than that I have no real issues since I got mine on release day. Sure I would like to not have to use a card and have a dust free screen, but the thought of getting a new phone that fixes those problems only to give me new ones scares me. I can live with it for now.01-13-09 01:05 PMLike 0
