is there button with the up and down the voulme? if so mine isnt working maybe its not supposed to?

On the right side of the device. If you're in the music player, you have to tap it up or down for volume. If you hold it any longer than a second or two it will function as track up or down.

The volume button is just below the headphone jack it a rocker style control.
