Is there any advantage to unlocking my storm if I am not traveling internationally?

I know it is a newbie question but I would like to know.

I think the only benefit is that you can use other carriers networks like att nd tmobile nd such...so basically getting gsn or w/e instead of cdma nd vice versa

Ok. I am new to this so bear with me please. Would I notice any difference in my call quality or browser/signal or is it not worth the effort unless you are traveling abroad?
