I am traveling out of the country and I want to use phone service and sms message service only. I don't want to use email or any other service that will incur a per Kb data charge. Verizon customer service told me there is no way to turn data services off. If this is true, then I will be forced to change devices back to my old LG flip for the duration of the trip. Is there a way to turn all data off on the Storm but still use phone and sms messaging?

Have you thought about unlocking the phone then getting a prepaid sim card when you get overseas?

I read in another thread that turning off data will also turn off SMS for Blackberries since they are sent over the data network rather than the voice network. So I'm guessing it won't work.
