this is annoying but can anyone help me figure out why my storm doesnt ring when i have it charging. i can hear my alerts for text messages, mms messages, alarm clock, everything except when someone is calling me. why is this happening?
check your various sound profiles, especially if you're using a customized one. go into your settings via the options if that doesn't work - it might be set not to ring when charging.

i'm using normal profile.it doesnt matter if i'm charging through my computer or wall, bedside is disabled and when its charging i will go look at my sound profile and my ringtones that i downloaded wont even be there, the only ringtones that are there are the ones that came with the phone.
you will not see your downloaded ringtones in the dropdown menu that appears when clicking for ringtones in the sound profile.
you have to click "browse" and go into your media file (if they're saved to your media card, access that. if they're saved to device memory, go there instead).
I suggest learning the way BB's UI is set up. it makes navigating the device in any situation much easier when you understand the intuition behind it.
i've had blackberries since last June and this one is the first one that has ever done this. whenever i have it charging and i go into "set ring tones/alerts<phone<ring tone<browse it says "To access files on the media card from your device, disconnect your device from your computer." so now what do i do Nancy Drew?
well that makes sense. if you're using the usb connection to your computer as the powersource, it's going to automatically initiate the DM. you can't access the files on the media card when it's connected to the DM.
I haven't tried it myself, but try clicking "disconnect" in the DM but don't physically disconnect the device (if you have an iPod, I'm sure you're familiar with what I'm trying to say - it can be d/c-ed from iTunes but still be charging). then try to access the media card.
just a word of advice - cut the attitude before you find yourself asking advice from one of the cats in here who won't hesitate to rip you a new one. we're trying to help.
i dont have a tuuuude. i was kidding around and i have it set up to where my dm doesnt start up when i plug my phone in, i actually have to double click the icon on my computer screen to start dm. i guess i may have a bad phone
i disabled everything for bedside mode. i just plugged it into the wall charger and it is working fine. but when i plug it into the computer it rings with the "classic ring" tone not my downloaded tone.
yeah its weird sometimes when its charging through my laptop it wont vib or ring then sometimes it just vibs, it will not ring however when connected to the comp.
It sounds like Mass Media Mode is enabled. This is the only time the phone can't access the media card.
Go to Options>Memory and you can set "Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected" to Prompt.
That way the PHONE not the computer will ask you if you want it enabled or not when you dock. When it is enabled, it can't see your SD Card, when it isn't it will.

Hope this helps.
Work around would also be to put whatever ringtones you are currently using on the phone's internal memory.
