Not running when the battery is too low is probably a feature to prevent damage to the phone trying to run on too low of power.

if you're on call 24/7 and it is critical that others can get a hold of you then just buy a spare battery or two and be done with it already...

all professionals equipe themselves with the tools they need to get the job done... think about it...
