    So if I put a ringtone in for a buddy all SMS and bb messenger rings now change to a custom tone too? Any way to get just ringtone unique with SMS and bb messenger and email alerts profile specific?

    Nope. Set Ringtones/Alerts can be set generally for phone, messages, etc...

    Set custom rings/alerts can be used for individual contacts.
