Hey guys I'm having some trouble. For some reason my phone is automatically deleting texts that are only a few days old. What's the deal? How do I make it save texts for longer? I went into options under SMS and changed the general settings to keep messages for 3 months but it doesn't seem to make a difference does n e 1 know what's wrong? Thanks!

Your user info says you have a Motorola Q. I have no idea how to help with that. Since you posted your question in a Storm forum, I'm going to assume you have a BlackBerry. If so, check your free memory: Options / Status / File Free:

What you are describing is typical of the problems caused by low available memory. Any time "File Free" drops below 12 000 000 bytes, the phone will start deleting call logs and text messages without warning to free up memory. Text messages may be deleted as soon as they arrive, before you have had time to read them.

A battery pull recovers memory and will alleviate the problem temporarily. The solution is to remove the stuff you don't need (the sample video, wallpaper, themes, other languages, brickbreaker, etc.) from the device's memory. The following procedure, originally written by Forums Moderator Reed McLay will guide you:

    http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...-memory-34633/

Also, if you have a Media Card, be sure to put pictures, videos, music, and ringtones on it, not in your device's memory. Keep in mind that Media Card memory is not device memory. You have to keep your device memory above 12 000 000 bytes, regardless of the capacity of your Media Card or how much free space it has. Finally, you can't at this time run programs from a Media Card. Programs have to be installed in and executed in device memory.

Thanks for updating your user info; that helps us help you. Did you perform the Memory Optimization Procedure? The Storm comes with a large amount of memory consumed by demo videos and other fluff that you can easily recover for your own use.

Click the link that I gave you in Post #2 (How to Increase BlackBerry's File Free Memory) and follow the instructions.

No, not with the BlackBerry software. And I'm not aware of any 3rd party apps that can do it, either.

no this is not possible. its a limitation by RIM, they barely let you put any system information on the memory card. hopefully in future updates this will be improved but until then no. I usually keep messages for up to 3 or 4 days back.

i think its also deleting my calendar events. i notice today everything prior to march.9 has been deleted. this is the same behavior that is happening with my text messages. my settings are to keep calendar stuff 'forever' (the same as for text messages)

can i save calendar events to the memory card?

is there a way for me to delete this program that deletes things when memory gets low? ..that should free up some memory for my personal data..

You are correct. The Memory Manager will also delete old calendar appointments. You can't save calendar events, or any personal data for that matter, to the Media Card.

You can't delete the Memory Manager; it's a key part of the OS. Basically, it's performing triage: when the available memory gets too low for the OS to function, it starts shedding what it considers less important data to free up memory so it can continue to function. If you don't want the Memory Manager to manage your memory, you have to do it before it gets that low. That's where the MOP that's linked in my sig will help you.
