Really? I didn't realise that. I'm T mobile UK but I guess UK networks really are different to US.

I have a Voyager and I can add up to ~530 char. in a single sms. And when I msg my Wife she has an enV and she can get the entire msg as a single msg. And yes it does send it as multiple msg's but she sees only one msg.

My wife & I are on VZ as is my sister. They have EnVs, I have the treo 700w. They both can send & recieve in excess of 160 sms. I recieve the plus 160 character SMS message broken into multiple messages at the 160 mark, but can only send up to the 160 char. limit. So this can't be a verizon limit but has to be the OS.
I have the 700wx and when I was using WM5 I could only send one 160-character message at a time. I have since upgraded to WM6 release and it now allows you to keep typing past the 160 and it conveniently tells you how many messages it will take to send the message and it keeps counting characters. A very welcomed addition over WM5 for anyone considering whether to do it.
What people have to realize is that SMS= Short Messaging Service. If it was more than 160 characters it would be a regular text or MMS message and not a SMS text. If they do increase the size of the message, they would also have to change the name from SMS to something different. That's if you all can understand what I'm trying to say.

CDMA networks can not support an extended SMS the way GSM networks can. In fact even in phones supporting 6*160 they only work within the Network (like IN). Since Blackberry's are huge business communication phones, and you are unlikely to know if the other user is on the Verizon (or Sprint) network it disables 6*160 support on those CDMA phones. The last thing anyone needs are business user sending a text and not knowing that the other side only got the first page.

As for the Storm, it does Limit to 160 only. As for other phones from verizon, such as the Voyager, Dare, EnV, etc, you can type up to 6*160, but you can send ONLY to another Verizon customer. if you try sending to another person on a different carrier, it will bounce back. So this is a decent idea to keep it at 160 on the storm so they don't bounce back. Most of my friends are on Verizon anyway so it's nice to have the ability to send longer SMS. When you have a friend send you something from a different carrier and it's more than 160 characters, you get it in multiple texts. When it's in the same carrier, it's all in one message as an EMS.
dont you hate when youre typing a really long text...and you can fit it all, but one word.... I wish it would let my type all i want... then bust it up and send it as multiples.
