I am trying to get my storm into standby mode using a sleeper magnet but when I put my Storm in the holders I have it still isn't going to standby. The two cases used to do it on my Curve, I don't get it! One is a Seidio case and the other is the actual OEM blackberry case! I hope something isn't wrong with the sensor in my Storm.
Have any of you run into this problem?

Are you using cases that were manufactured for the Storm or the Curve? I've heard that the sleeper magnets are in different locations in different phones.
It is for storm and has magnet in the center of the holster

This front−facing swivel plastic holster features Sleep Mode & a swivel clip. Allows you to carry your BlackBerry Storm on your belt or waistband.
I have the RIM pouch. It locks the storm when placed in the pouch. I believe that it the closest to standby mode that the storm has.
Also heres a TIP. Place the storm in the pouch using the same orientation each time. I use the white tag inside to make sure i only put it in one way. THis allows the leather to stretch and conform to the storm. if you place it in both ways it will stretch the case too much, given the front and back of the storm are different shapes and sizes. I always place the white tag on the call button side of my phone and it locks every time.
I have a generic horizontal PDA case from VZW with the magnet in the middle and it works well. My old horizontal case had magnets at the ends of the flap and did not work. Magnet definitely needs to be in the middle to trigger sleep mode. It never locks my Storm, just puts it to sleep. And I know it goes to sleep because it immediately shuts off the screen. As soon as I open the flap, the screen immediately jumps back on. And if you need more proof, the "vibe when in pouch" function works fine as well. Running .76.
Get a fridge magnet (or any other light strength magnet). See if you can manually trigger the phone to standby by placing the magnet near the center of the front screen or near the center of the back battery cover.
If using a manual magnet does not get your storm to standby, then you might need a replacement.
And just for clarification, like the above posters said: standby != lock.
standby = screen shuts off, buttons stop responding
lock = screen locks, then fades to black, but front four buttons still work; requires you to enter your password to unlock
