The whole screen getting stuck in landscape or portrait mode is simply a software glitch and not any type of problem with the accelerometer. I know this because the screen will work perfectly every time as long as you "wake" it up in a certain sequence every time.

The way to wake it up from the locked position is to wait for the screen to go black and then instead of hitting the lock button actually press the screen and the display will come on then press the screen again and a notification will pop up saying it's locked and to press the unlock button at this point press the unlock button and the phone will unlock and work flawlessly. As long as the phone is always unlocked this way it will work correctly. If you happen to wake it the wrong way just put it back to sleep and do it the way described above and it will again work correctly.

Hopefully the update coming will fix this bug.
