Just a really quick question....is "activating" the sim card the same as "unlocking" the phone??

    No. Totally different.

Unlocking the phone requires a special code generated from the
IMEI or ESN number. It has nothing to do with the SIM.

Activating a SIM card is simply establishing service.

activating it consists of calling Verizon and telling them you are going overseas.. then they read off the rates to you in a recorded conversation (rates are REALLY expensive)..

Unlocking it consists of after they read you the rates you tell them you also have a foreign sim card with a local number that you would like to use also. Can you please unlock the phone..

    Thats it
