I was looking foward to this announcement most of all, but after reading about it, I'm really, really disappointed.

"Carriers will be responsible for hosting the application data and sending updates to the directory to RIM."

This is a terrible idea on RIMs part. Now I'm going to have to wait 3 months to get my Facebook 1.2 update, or months to get carrier approval on other apps. RIM needs to take a page from apple and scale back the carrier interaction and do things on its own.
