I've been messing with the settings of my storm, as far as the section regarding " Network Technology. GSM/UMTS, 1XEV and Global. I find 1XEV saves me the most battery. But is there a difference in speed? The storm is my first BlackBerry, and my first smartphone I am trying to learn the ways of a CrackBerry master. Help me CrackBerry, your my only hope. ( Shameless star wars plug. )

1xev it what you should use unless you are traveling outside the US, then it would be global

there will be no difference in speed

If you are in the US/Canada and are using the SIM card that came with the Storm, there is no reason to set "Global" or "GSM/UMTS". This setting allows the phone to use GSM and their version of 3G, but the VZW SIM does not allow roaming on US/Canada GSM systems. So it is just a waste of the battery to let it try to connect to a GSM system in the US/Canada; it's never going to succeed.
