Music player - low volume & sound quality
- My trip to the store was not helpful. They told me I could test my plugs on their storm and they would put music on it if needed. When I get there, they would not put music on it for me to test. Whatever. I went home and called verizon and ordered a new storm to replace mine. The guy said it might not ship until the 8th. I'll let you know how it turns out.12-01-08 08:44 AMLike 0
- Okay this is crazy, but I cannot control the volume on mine. The volume doesn't change at all, no matter what I do. I can get it to work but sometimes it responds and sometimes it doesn't. Most times it will do both, raise lower the volume and rewind/advance the song. When playing a video it seems to work fine. Is this a bug for the next release? I did the first upgrade on Sunday and love the results so far.

12-02-08 02:06 PMLike 0 - I've got the opposite problem. I can't get my volume low enough. I have the Ultimate Ears 5i Pros. It blasts me away for background/work music at the lowest volume.12-02-08 02:39 PMLike 0
- many of you having problems, it is most likely your headphones. i had the same problem, then looked at my headphones. the headphones that have two rings on them have this problem (low volume, terrible with bass, etc) but the headphones with three rings on the jack sound like they are supposed to. it is not your storm, but the jack that they use on the storm that only works fully with headphones with the three rings. hope this solves all your problems!12-02-08 03:10 PMLike 0

- My first post here and new to blackberry's as well. So i also have had the same problem with the music player. At max volume the sound was choppy and it wasn't even blasting that loud. I updated some apps last night and the phone did the full reset as if the battery was taken out. Sure enough as soon as it came back on i played music and it sounded much much better. I charged for the night and in the morning it went back to being choppy. It may have to do with the O.S. and just glitching while recharging. It may be the mute button and the O.S. messing up the volume output. Im not sure if i hit the mute button to turn of the music before recharging. Ive been avoiding the mute button and so far so good. Let me know if anyone gets the same results.
P.S. this is all using the headphones that came with the phone.
This just in: As i was listening to a song i got a gmail message which interupted the song to sound the message alert. This set the music player back to low max volume and choppy again. Im turning phone on silent and turning alerts off as we speakLast edited by BigGunzEC; 12-05-08 at 01:12 PM.
12-05-08 01:00 PMLike 0 - Some people are missing this point.
Headphones of all types have different sensitivity.
Some headphones require more power than others to get the same kind of volumes out of the h-phones.
My sonys and senheisers both sound great on the storm, but cannot get close to the volume levels of the stock ear buds.
Some times you dont have to sacrifice sound quality though. Its like that in the car stereo world too, you dont want to buy the mtx 20" jackhammer sub and run it off a 100watt amp. And conversely you dont want to waste a 1000watt amp on a radio shack sub. Some manufactures produce speakers that are pretty efficent and still can take loads of juice. But you have to pay for the quality.
for example, Ultimate ears superfi 5.0 pro's that have 2 high end drivers per earphone. Super efficent with superior sound. Sure has some great h-phones too.
I'm spending $200 on some ultimate ears in the next few days. I'll be sure to post a little diddy about the sound volume and quality.
I had been through about 7 sets of headphones on my old iphone 3g and was blown away from the amounts of sub-par sound from $125 and under headphones. V-moda, ultimate ears cheapies, sony earbuds, skull candys, shure cheapies. It's not until i borrowed a friends high end earphones that i discovered i could not keep on buying muddy sounding ear buds. Now i have to re-encode alot of my music, because high end earphones will show off every poor encoded mp3.
Sorry for boring most of you, i had too much time on my hands tonight.12-10-08 02:49 AMLike 0 - the volume is noticably lower with the update than before
that is a fact that i am 100% certain of. the update did something to the sound and now, with the same headphones, i can't hear anything....and for those who dont believe it, are you listening to it in your house? because of course, with no loud noises, its going to "seem loud".
but for those of us who commute (subways and the like), you know that the volume needs to be louder than "normal" to compensate for that bum asking you to spare some change12-10-08 06:19 AMLike 0 - for example, Ultimate ears superfi 5.0 pro's that have 2 high end drivers per earphone. Sound response is astounding. My wife would flip if she knew how much I spent on them, but if I were to put something in that has a quality full range of sound she'd be floored coming from her ipod OEM buds.12-10-08 07:23 AMLike 0 - My songs were sounding terrible too; when I turned on Audio Boost the sound immediately got better. From Media > Music, hit the BB menu button and choose Options, then scroll down to see the Audio Boost option. You'll have to click past a warning saying you'll go deaf, but so far that hasn't... eh? what's that?12-12-08 03:55 PMLike 0
- I don't notice any change in volume at all using Audio Boost. The sound *may* be a little more dynamic, but it's sure as heck not any louder. Either with or without the Audio Boost my maximum volume is what I would consider to be an average listening level, and not even remotely close to ear damaging. That said, it's just about as loud as I would ever want to go, so it's fine for me.12-12-08 06:00 PMLike 0

- A million people will call me insane, but I swear this is the truth...
Since I first got 4.5 on my pearl, I've been streaming mp3s by bluetooth to my car stereo using the same motorola handsfree unit. I've used it with the pearl, curve, bold and now the Storm. On each of my previous units, it worked great and I expected the same for the Storm. On Friday, Sat and Sunday, however, I had a problem where the volume would randomly drop and one click of the volume up key would blow out your eardrums. This mostly occurred when moving from one song to the next.
On Monday, out of boredom and curiosity, I let the desktop manager update my phone to the new platform (it's still .65, just the higher platform number). Quite literally the only change I have noticed is that I no longer have the volume problems I had before. Otherwise, the phone seems to work exactly as it did before I applied the update (I'm one of the lucky ones who hasn't had to deal with lag issues). I really don't know if the update had anything to do with it, but I spend enough time in my vehicle listening to mp3s and streaming radio that I noticed it immediately.
As for sound quality, all my berrys have sounded great and the Storm's no exception. I did have to change the preset EQ setting to Rock as the default setting sounded pretty flat. I've also enabled audioboost, but can't tell much of a difference.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?01-20-10 11:00 AMLike 0 - I am having this exact same problem on my Storm 2 - when the media player moves from one song to the next the volume drops. The volume indicator still shows the volume is loud but it isn't and when you adjust the volume it suddenly gets loud again. This only happens with headphones and bluetooth.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?01-20-10 11:12 AMLike 0 - I do have Vlingo! Damn! It all started when I installed Vlingo!
Thanks so much. I'll remove it and see if that helps. Too bad, I really like Vlingo.01-20-10 11:40 AMLike 0 - I was having the same problem and did various wipes/reinstalls and removing bluetooth items and repairings until finally I deleted Vlingo Everywhere and voila no more fluctuating volume problem. If you have either Vligo or Vlingo you might try a delete of them and try it. Good luck.01-20-10 11:45 AMLike 0
