    I have the same problem. I get the red star over my sms/mms icon but no messages. Only thing that clears it is when i bring up full menu of icons then back to my set 8. Once back the my set 8 its no longer there. Hmmmm...

    I had same issue with grid layout set to 4x4 instead of default.
    You can check by: options>advanced options>accessibility

    It sounds like a theme issue allowing ghost messages, very similar to the ghost LED. I would suggest a different theme and see where that gets you.

    Try locating via messages > menu > view folder > check all + look in visual voicemail/other apps w/updates, if u have. No luck > battery pull.
