I have tried for days to sort this problem out and I still can't!

I use google as my search engine. I have this on my XP and also a launcher to it on my storm. However, I am missing an address bar!

Now, supposing I want to go to http://www.fredbloggs.com I can't! I know the address but on opening the launcher simply see this:-

which means on that search box I have to type the http and the www and then fredbloggs and then wade through pages upon pages looking at the small print until I see a link to the fredbloggs website that I want to access.

Ok, so I notice on the bottom left there is a www logo - if I click on that it brings up a home page which is vodophone

At the top is already entered http:// BUT I have a keyboard which is taking up half the screen (it actually obliterates the words from bookmarks downwards) and although I can enter an address that I want after that pre-written http, I cannot clear that keyboard from my screen - and there is no facility that I can see after completing the http address to simply say "go" or "do" or "get" or "fetch" or "open" or anything else .I can type the address but I cannot go any further - apart from looking at that address until doomsday on my storm.

Supposing I wanted a .jad file from here that I know is (example) (start with an http) then //forums.crackberry.com/f134/blackberry-storm-ota-apps-thread-107305/ I would have to type all that lot into the search box of my google which would bring up a lot of pages and I would have to look down for a link to that particular thread to click on it and then open it so that I could download something. Its crazy!

So, is there any method that I can type in a website address and press go or enter to actually access that website?

(sorry for my long post but I wanted to try and make my problem very clear)

where the www is at the top of the screen, click there with your finger then type in the url you are trying to go to, then hit the enter key.

Also, to make the keyboard go away...

    either...

    A) Assign one of the side buttons to show/hide keyboard. I think most users (myself included) have done this and it's very handy, in any application.

    -or-

    B) Touch (don't click) your finger on the top of the keyboard (between the the T and the Y) and and swipe your finger straight down (towards the space bar)...make sure you see the blue glow follow your finger down...the keyboard will hide.

You can also slide your finger up from the bottom to make the keyboard appear but, this can be a little tricky on screens that scroll (like the WWW/History/Bookmarks screen)...this is why the "Show/Hide keyboard" button is so handy...it ALWAYS works...even from like the home screen, where you don't ever use a keyboard.

Thank you. Now, can you talk me through assigning the left hand side button to show/hide the keyboard?

I have gone into options and then screen/keyboard and clicked on the left side convenience key which opens up a long list but I can't see on that list anything to say show/hide

you're on the right path, but you have to scroll the options down and select "virtual keyboard"

Ah! whoopeee! I've changed it and its so much better using that convenience key. The last name I would have picked would have been virtual keyboard. I wish Blackberry would name its items as "doofrey" "thingumijig""wonot" etc., as I would know exactly what I was looking for.

    Thanks a lot seVer916, I'm happy now.

    WTF? User Error!

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen in the Browser to bring up the keyboard. If you want to hide it, swipe down from the top of the keyboard to the bottom (finishing with the spacebar). How hard is that? Gota learn to use the phone my friend... btw, the keyboard should autohide itself once you've entered text into a text field and hit Enter on the keyboard. If you enter text and want to push a link button the page instead of hitting enter, then you'll need to swipe to hide the keyboard like I told you above. Forget the assigning buttons to the keyboard, that's lame. Good luck!
