I just got myself a Storm as a backup phone. Unlocked to use with AT&T. However, on Call Screen, the "My Number" still shows the previous owner's Verizon number. I have wipe handheld, update fresh 148 fw, inserted AT&T card and switched the mobile network to GSM, and also the advance options>sim card is showing my AT&T number.

Previous owner is using another phone already...

Is there anyway to change/remove that?

That i'm not sure of. You could try it and see where it gets you. I just know that it's good for the storm.

No, you don't need to do this with the Bold because the Bold is purely GSM and that means that it pulls it's phone number data from the SIM card. If the number is branded on the SIM, it'll show up correctly. If not, go into Options/SIM Card or Options/Advanced/SIM Card (I forget how it is layed out exactly since I don't have a GSM device in front of me now), but in there you can hit Menu and get an option for SIM Card Phone Number, which you can edit or whatever if it's wrong, but it shouldn't be wrong if you put in YOUR SIM card from your old phone on AT&T in it.

Thanks for the correction civic! I've never owned a bold and therefore haven't really read anything about it. Good thing you came to help! ^.^

What I said about the Bold applies to all GSM based BB from any carrier.

    Hi Amavit,
Thx dude, ur reply also worked 4 me.

    Now some more big probe....
I bought this 9530 of verizon, UK from my friend and while he confirmed me that its unlocked officially by operator, I tried and my GSM SIM worked beautifully.
Now, my problem is that, the set already has a pre-programmed Verizon CDMA number, which, by now i think is not in service by now. I want to re-program it to use with CDMA operators in india. I tried it with Reliance CDMA T-sim but resulted in phone saying invalid sim (might be because it cant take 2 CDMA radios at a time). Tell me how can i clean the pre-programmed number from the handset and use it with either T-sim or re-program my Indian operator number in it?
Any quick n positive reply will be deeply appreciated.
    Thanks

You need to get MSL code as the password instead of ##000000. To get this you need uniCDMA & Hexeditor. I did this for my storm, the process will be similar, but youi need to find out which address to read from your tour.

    I think Bell is ##111111.
I got an error saying I have exceeded the number of tries though when I tried.

Thank you very much for the posting. I have a new unlocked Storm 9550 and your fix worked perfectly. Now i can even see my Service provider's name (Rogers) when before there was an "Activation require" message on display even though the phone was working fine.
