that may work for you, but i am experiencing similar issues. when someone texts me, it will sound, even on vibrate only. Active profile is set on volume, led and vibration.

Its a software issue. Create a NEW profile with only vibrations and use that instead of the installed vibrate profile. That will solve it until RIM does.

Oh yeah - and set your volume to silent on the profile for all notifications.
