I have data off while roaming and have been using another cell so have not reactivated the antenna. The phone is not logged onto any cellular network.
I run google maps and have google lattitude running. To my surprise my current location appears on my google home page!
This has worked in Australia and Thailand - I am based in New Zealand. Looking at my latest account I have not been charged data roaming fees
How can this be working?

Did you also turn off wifi?
Some apps still connect if you set data off while roaming, because if the data passes through wifi your not actually roaming.
