I connected to desktop manager on my PC and it asked for a password, I typed what I thought was the password and after 9 attempts got a screen that said "this is your last attempt, if incorrect all data and programs will be lost" and then it happened, the system wiped. I spend two hours with verizon and they confirmed I had the right password and said I am not the first person to call with this problem.
Moral of the story - back up, often.
I got everything back except my work email which is through BES so that will wait until tomorrow.
